Enrichment Programs

Group Classes
Creative Piano Workshop classes are taught in the studio once a month throughout the school year. At the classes, students benefit from and receive positive feedback through performance practice in a relaxed familiar atmosphere. Other workshop activities include composition, improvisation, group theory, music history projects, and ensemble practice. The workshops
are a positive, fun experience for everyone.

Parent Class
Parent class is an educational enrichment class for parents of Suzuki students and meets once a month for an hour on a Saturday morning throughout the school year. Topics include: "Nurtured by Love", an introduction to the Suzuki method and philosophy, Helping Parents Practice: ideas for making it easier, Parents as Partners, and Ages and Stages
.
Recitals
Recitals are required for all school age students. Recital performance is an important goal that builds confidence and self-esteem as well as moves the student to advancement. The bi-annual studio recitals are held in the spring and fall at a local performance center. Our spring recital includes an awards ceremony for Certificate Of Merit, Guild, Composers Today and Suzuki Book 1 graduations.

Recital Participation Requirements
1. Recitals are for students of the Alyse Korn Piano Studio only.

2. All keyboard pieces must be performed by memory. Ensembles may use their music.

3. Students must be mature enough to sit alone for the entire recital as they are required to sit with the other participants.

4. Beginners must have taken at least 6 months of lessons with their teacher.

5. Students are to bow before and after playing

6. If extra equipment is needed for performance, the student must bring that equipment themselves.

7. All students are required to wear semi-formal attire for the recital. Boys must wear dress shirts (short or long sleeves), dress pants and dress or dress-casual shoes. No jeans, t-shirts, athletic shoes, flip-flops or sandals. Girls must wear dressy dresses, skirts and blouses or pant suits. Skirts and dresses should have no more than 2 inches above the knee. Tops must have at least 3-inch shoulder straps. Tops must cover the midriff area. No more than a 2 inch heel is recommended. Students must be able to walk comfortably in their shoes to the piano and be able to pedal comfortably.

The Achievement Program
The Carnegie Hall Royal Conservatory Achievement Program provides a recognized national standard of musical success through an effectively sequenced course of study from beginner to advanced levels. The Achievement Program inspires excellence through individual student assessments and allows students to celebrate accomplishment and track their progress with others across the country. It also supports teachers with high-quality and innovative resources. All students deserve the opportunity to celebrate their musical achievements nationally. Certificate of Merit
The CM program offers students the opportunity to be evaluated in the areas of performance, sight reading, memory, technique, theory, ear training, and improvisation. Evaluation and testing day is held at a local College in early spring (usually March), with registration in the fall. Participation in Certificate of Merit is optional for students between the ages of 8 and 17 years of age. Honor students perform in a branch recital, qualifying students may be invited to perform at Annual State Convention, and qualifying high school seniors receive medallions.

Composers Today
The CT program offers students the opportunity to go one step beyond CM and receive an annual evaluation of their original composition. Qualifying students may be invited to perform at Annual State Convention in one of 3 separate events: Symposium, Contest winners, or Young Composers Guild.

Suzuki Piano Graduation Ceremony
This graduation recital is sponsored by the Suzuki Association Los Angeles branch. All eligible students submit a CD recording of their graduation piece from Suzuki books 2 and up. The student receives an evaluation and is invited to perform at the graduation ceremony held in Pasadena each spring. Book 1 students will prepare a CD recording or video of all book 1 pieces and give an in home concert/graduation.

Southern California Junior Bach Festival:
Established in 1961 by Madame Alice Ehlers of the University of Southern California, The Southern California Junior Bach Festival was founded to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Through the annual presentation of students in the Southern California Junior Bach Festival, the organization maintains high performance standards and interpretation of J.S. Bach's music.

Held in the early Spring, qualified students participate in the Santa Clarita branch festival. Winners are eligible to continue on in the regional festival held in Ventura and Complete Works held in Santa Barbara.
